Local collaboration Circular impact

A collective responsibility

Businesses in the Saint-Laurent borough are joining forces to develop new solutions for reusing plastic waste, driving progress toward a circular economy. Leading the charge, Polykar, has launched PolyVie, an ambitious pilot recycling program aimed at transforming plastic waste from local companies into reusable resources.

The initiative brings together prominent organizations including

  • EssilorLuxottica: Renowned for optical lenses, iconic eyewear brands, and vision care products.

  • Majestic International: A distinguished manufacturer of men’s apparel and loungewear.

  • Moneris Solutions Corporation: One of Canada’s leading commerce solution providers.

  • STANPRO: A Canadian leader in lighting solutions, offering innovative and energy-efficient products.

  • “PolyVie is more than a recycling program, it’s a testament to the power of local collaboration. By bringing together businesses in Saint-Laurent, we’re proving that sustainability starts in our own backyard. This initiative transforms plastic waste into opportunity, setting a new standard for how communities can work together to drive real progress toward a circular economy,” said Amir Karim, CEO of Polykar.

Turning Vision into Impact: Local Action
The program has achieved an impressive 96% recycling rate by diverting thousands of pounds of plastic waste from landfills and repurposing it at Polykar’s facility to create new products. Sourcing plastic waste locally from businesses, the initiative fosters a community-driven effort to combat environmental challenges. While still in its early stages, the program’s success highlights the vast potential of collaborative sustainability efforts.

    Your Turn to Take Action
Polykar invites other organizations to participate in PolyVie and be part of the shift toward a more sustainable future. By working together, businesses can help reshape how plastic waste is managed and turn sustainability ambitions into real action.

    Our Zero-Waste Approach

    Our Zero-Waste Approach

There’s a great future in plastics – think about it

Sustainable plastics play a critical role in maintaining hygienic and healthy communities and keeping food safe in the supply chain. However, the undeniable issue of what happens post-use is still present. At Polykar, all of our current and future efforts are geared towards addressing this challenge. We are committed to working with global partners to create sustainable solutions in flexible packaging.

This contribution towards a more circular economy is at the forefront of what we do. Polykar has always seen the importance of playing a leadership role towards a more sustainable world. For over 30 years, we have been giving flexible packaging a second life.

With the best people, research and knowledge available in plastics recycling and sustainability, we manufacture essential products while caring for our planet. In fact, everything we manufacture is either 100% recyclable or compostable. It’s in our DNA.

    Full Circle

We've developed expertise in our cutting-edge recycling department which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our positive impact is felt by diverting large quantities of post-industrial and post-commercial plastic waste away from landfills.

Reusing our reprocessed plastic waste and extending its lifecycle is something we practice in-house. We walk our walk by encouraging our teams to bring in their flexible plastic waste from home to be recycled.

Because at Polykar, we truly believe that Zero Waste begins with us!

    Eco-Responsibility in R&D

    Eco-Responsibility in R&D

Everything we make is either recyclable or compostable

At Polykar, our eco-responsibility process starts in-house. We separate plastic waste at source to manufacture film and make our garbage bags out of recycled plastics.

With world-class R&D specialists, we are actively researching innovative solutions to make all of our polyethylene packaging more environmentally sustainable. And, to answer the growing demands of the food industry, we will lead and define food-approved compostable packaging to meet food safety and hygiene standards.

We are also creating partnerships with global experts to research the potential of recycling barrier films - used to maintain or extend shelflife and protect food integrity.

There is much to do together. If you are interested in partnering with us on a Polykar eco-R&D project – contact us!
